The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Tilade® (nedocromil sodium inhalation) in April 1997, and Alocril® (nedocromil sodium ophthalmic solution) in December 1999 .

Tilade® is only FDA-approved for use in adults and children older than 6 years of age. Alocril® is not recommended for use in children less than 3 years of age.

A prescription is required for both forms of nedocromil.
